Glowing tributes to late Zach


The Chennai Branch of Indian Rubber Institute (IRI) conducted a condolence meeting in memory of late Zachariah George (Zach), former General Manager – Development and Technical, MRF Limited, on January 18, 2018, at Rain Tree Hotel, Chennai. The meeting was attended by over 75 people including family members of late Zach, his past colleagues retired from MRF, the present executives from MRF, Apollo Tyres, JK Tyre, besides IRI and AIRIA Chennai Branch Committee Members and industry representatives.

The meeting was planned by KJ Janakar Chairman, IRI Chennai Branch, along with Dr Ranjith Matthan, Zach’s longtime friend. The memorial meeting was started with a prayer by Rev. Thomas Alexander Achen of St Paul’s Marthoma Church. KJ Janakar, who conducted the entire proceedings, introduced the family members of Zach to the participants. He then invited the speakers who included industry luminaries like PK Mohamed of Apollo Tyres, Xavier of MRF, Virendra Rathod, Sector Head – Elastomer of Reliance, Utpal Paul, Executive Consultant, India Liaison of Elastomer Technology Intelligence Consulting (ETIC) Inc., Vinod Simon, Chairman of RSDC, VT Chandrasekharan Vice President of AIRIA, Raja Annamalai, Chairman of AIRIA Southern Region, Anil Kumar, Manish from Thejo Engineering and Jayamani.

All the speakers and some of the participants paid rich tributes to late Zach. They shared their decades-long bond of friendship and association with Zach and lauded the services he rendered to the rubber industry. The initiative taken by him in conducting the first IRCO Conference in Chennai, India, and the contributions he made to the American Chemical Society (ACS) Rubber Division were specially mentioned in the meeting. Crystal Vivek Zachariah, the daughter-in-law of Zach, responded on behalf of the bereaved family. The meeting ended with glowing concluding tributes paid to Zach by Dr Ranjith Matthan. This was followed by fellowship dinner.
